MITIGATING RISKS TO ESTABLISH SAFER GROUND
MITIGATING RISKS TO ESTABLISH SAFER GROUND

Targeted Intrusive Surveys using specialist detection techniques to identify and assess buried UXO risks, supporting safe design, planning and construction decisions.
Intrusive UXO surveys are undertaken where there is a requirement to physically investigate the presence of potential unexploded ordnance below ground level. These surveys provide a higher level of confidence than non-intrusive methods and are typically used to support detailed design, planning conditions, or risk mitigation strategies for intrusive works. Using specialist techniques, including magnetometer-assisted drilling and probing methods, our UXO Specialists investigate subsurface conditions to detect ferromagnetic anomalies that may indicate the presence of buried ordnance.
Survey depths and methodologies are determined based on site-specific factors, including historical risk, ground conditions and proposed works. This ensures that the level of mitigation is proportionate and aligned with the actual risk present. The outputs from intrusive UXO surveys provide clear, defensible data to support project decision-making, enabling clients to proceed with greater confidence while ensuring safety and compliance with industry guidance. Where required, intrusive surveys can be integrated with ground investigation works, providing an efficient and coordinated approach to both UXO risk management and geotechnical assessment.
