MITIGATING RISKS TO ESTABLISH SAFER GROUND
MITIGATING RISKS TO ESTABLISH SAFER GROUND

Where drilling works are undertaken in areas with a potential risk of buried UXO, our specialists provide UXO Borehole Support to ensure activities are conducted safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to programme.
Our UXO Specialists utilise advanced magnetometer systems to undertake downhole UXO mitigation surveys for the detection of ferromagnetic anomalies that may indicate the presence of buried unexploded ordnance (UXB). Prior to drilling, a surface scan is conducted at each borehole location to confirm initial clearance. During drilling operations, magnetometer surveys are carried out at regular intervals (typically every 1 metre) to monitor for potential anomalies as depth increases. Required survey depths are determined on site by our UXO Specialist, who combines magnetometer data with geological information provided by the Site Engineer or Driller to assess maximum bomb penetration depth and confirm safe continuation of works. Once this depth has been achieved, clearance is given for drilling to proceed to final depth. Our specialists have extensive experience supporting window sampling, cable percussion and rotary drilling operations, allowing surveys to be timed efficiently with minimal disruption to programme. Individual surveys are typically completed within a matter of minutes.
In the event that an anomaly is identified, works are paused and the site team is notified. The borehole may be relocated or discontinued, with findings documented and further investigation undertaken where necessary.
